Dear Past French Market Attendees:

For the past 43 years, WITAN (Women in Touch with Akron’s Needs) has held our juried Artisan and Craftsman Show in February. It has become an Akron tradition and an event WITAN members look forward to sharing with the community. It has always been our pleasure to welcome you to our event each year and appreciate your past support.

As you might imagine, the ongoing issues with Covid-19 brought many concerns to WITAN for the safety of our attendees, artisans and members who volunteer at the event.

As a result, we have cancelled our February 2021 French Market. We are very disappointed to do so as this is one of our major fundraisers of the year and 100% of the proceeds are returned to the Greater Akron area through our annual grants.

The pandemic has caused many of the area non-profit agencies to need our help more than ever to fund supplies and programs to help those less fortunate in our community.

Without the French Market and the over $20,000 that it raises every year, the funds available for WITAN’s grants has been severely impacted. For over 77 years, it has been WITAN’s mission to utilize 100% of the proceeds from out fundraisers for grants to small non-profit groups who directly serve the underprivileged throughout the northeast Ohio area.

The needs in our community are greater than ever. Our WITAN Grant Committee received 38 grants requests from area non-profits totaling $210,375 for this year.

Here just a few of the organizations that WITAN has supported in the past:

  • Blessings in a Backpack – sends food home to needy children so they may have something to eat over the weekend.
  • Stewart’s Caring Place – to help the purchase of wigs and wig care kits for participants undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Mobile Meals – provides meals and nutritional supplements for homebound elderly and disabled.

Would you please consider making a donation to the WITAN French Market? Even a small donation of the French Market Ticket price and the amount that you would have spent on lunch will help ensure that WITAN can continue helping the underprivileged in our community.

Any donation amount is appreciated and will help WITAN continue its legacy of helping non-profit organizations serve the critical needs of those who need our support.

If you have any questions, please email Tina Schmutz at Thank you in advance for your consideration.

We look forward to sharing our 44th annual Juried Arts and Crafts Show in 2022. We will update you in early 2022 about our French Market and hope to see you then.
